People seek counselling in a variety of circumstances and often they are looking to develop a greater understanding of themselves and to enhance their psychological wellbeing. Counselling provides a therapeutic space to create opportunities to effect change or live more resourcefully with a difficult situation.

Counselling support for specific life changing events, such as bereavement or loss, pregnancy, infertility, divorce or redundancy is often indicated but there are also less tangible issues such as depression, anxiety or emotional confusion which cause difficulties in everyday life. The consequences of these situations will vary in severity between individuals. The counselling process is an empowering one that focusses on a client’s own inner resources to find solutions and a new way forward. A professional counsellor will facilitate the exploration of thoughts and feelings in a way that is rarely possible with family, colleagues or friends. It can also provide emotional support following bereavement or loss.

Not everyone comes for counselling with a problem to solve. Counselling provides an environment to explore feelings and aspects of life often as part of ongoing personal or professional development.

The counselling has helped me to understand myself better and my relationships with my family have really improved as a result
